Please note: While these Termination Instructions offer a helpful guide, they should always be used alongside current connector system manufacturing instructions for best results.
About the Termination Instructions
These termination instructions are iIntended solely for terminating Gore’s Ethernet cables with the plug and receptacle versions of the MIL-DTL-38999 General Purpose Connector System. They first detail the tools and materials you’ll need, which include:
- Needle nose pliers and hand strippers
- Tweezer scissors, scalpel and cutters
- Crimpers (M22520/2-01 / AFM8)
- Socket positioner (K41) and pin positioner (K-42)
- Copper foil tape (3M-3313)
- Probe/pick and braid brush
- Heat gun and contact insertion tool (M81969/14-01)
Preparing the cable and parts, terminating the receptacle connector (Termination A) and plug connector (Termination B), closing the connectors, and performing required testing are all covered thoroughly with easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions and visual aids, like photos and illustrations, to help you ensure proper termination.
Performing Required Testing
You should perform all required testing. Gore recommends the assembly should, at the minimum, be verified for proper wiring and continuity, and checked for shorts. You may be required to complete additional testing by local authorities and/or end-users. Gore recommends testing the final assembly using an advanced signal iIntegrity tester such as the Fluke Networks® DSX-5000 or equivalent.
